UNVEILING

CONTEMPORARY ISRAELI ART IN ZURICH

Israeli contemporary art is creating an international buzz. In recent years, Israeli artists have gained worldwide exposure through their highly regarded achievements. They are standing out at international exhibitions, and featuring in major museums, high profile galleries and art fairs. Zurich importance in the realms of art, as well as its current status as a hub for art, promise to provide the perfect grounds to expose Israel's artists contributions to the art field. We wish to share these moments of success and optimism with art lovers in Zurich - the sprawling culture-bound metropolitan that it is.

The artists selected to take part in this project are a rising new force, several of whom boast outstanding accomplishments. Their work, which introduces a promising and unique artistic expression, both stimulates the eye and challenges the mind.

The project aims both to expose contemporary Israeli Art in Zurich as well as to reflect a “different” side of Israel, one that is not synonymous with political and social issues we are familiar with. The wider public outside of Israel so far has had little exposure to the flourishing and thriving art scene that has developed in Israel and the international dimensions and impact it has.

Crossover Events:
There will be crossover events in the areas of music, literature, film and culinary arts, always with reference to Israel and, wherever appropriate, also with reference to the artists and their exhibited art works.

Curator:
KEREN BAR-GIL is a prominent art consultant and independent curator residing in Tel Aviv. She is assisting both private and public collections in Israel and aboard. She is mainly working with emerging Israeli artists and is very knowledgeable in this scene. Over the years, Keren has organized exhibitions, exposing contemporary Israeli art, in London and Geneva. Keren also founded the ‘Keshet Award’ for a promising Israeli artist, in collaboration with the Herzliya Museum, and is the author of the book ‘Mixed Media’.

She is the first in Israel to open a Contemporary Pop-Up Gallery, which runs a comprehensive art gallery curriculum.

Selecting to present exhibitions at various venues, rather than restricting the gallery to a single dedicated space, allows Keren Bar-Gil freedom and creativity. In addition, acting as a Pop-Up Gallery, enables Bar-Gil to create exhibitions in challenging and ever changing artistic and non-artistic sites.

Keren Bar-Gil’s Gallery holds about 5 exhibitions per year, using various art venues in Israel and abroad, both established and alternative.
