Bianca Pratorius started her formal training at the Holzfachschule, Köln where she received her degree in fine furniture building and design and subsequently moved to Miami where she attended International Fine Arts College. She now lives and works in the Chattanooga /Tennessee area.
She has had many solo exhibitions and has been participating in numerous group exhibitions. Her works are represented in major collections around the world.
Bianca Pratorius begann ihre Ausbildung an der Holzfachschule, Köln, wo sie ihren Abschluss in feinem Möbelbau und Design machte. Anschliessend zog sie nach Miami um, wo sie das International Fine Arts College besuchte. Heute lebt und arbeitet sie in der Gegend von Chattanooga / Tennessee.
Ihre Werke sind in bedeutenden Sammlungen auf der ganzen Welt vertreten und wurden in vielen Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen gezeigt.
Bianca Pratorius about her work:
“In my work I explore pattern, structure and repetition through the use of simple yet labor-intensive processes. I continuously investigate different materials for their structural and tactile potential and the process of selecting them is very deliberate.
The soft forms I create from felt revolve around the process of hand cutting the felt into very organized ladder type pattern which seems to dissolve into organized chaos upon installation. The forms are never preconceived, but are created spontaneously upon installation by letting the inherent sensuality of the material express itself.
My pieces counteract the notion of an object's or sculpture's permanence as they are unplanned expressions on a wall or space that can never be repeated exactly once the form is removed.
My collages satisfy my need to translate what I have created in 3-D into a 2-D format. The process of creating a 2-D language around the felt sculptures is an ongoing one. I use various printmaking techniques as well as drawing and other mixed media techniques to create the collages. I continue to explore and follow the leads of my own content and thus my work has become a sort of self perpetuating organism continuously shifting back and forth between 3-D and 2-D.”
Bianca Pratorius über ihr künstlerisches Schaffen:
“In meiner Arbeit erforsche ich Muster, Strukturen und Wiederholungen durch den Einsatz von einfachen, aber arbeitsintensiven Prozessen. Ich untersuche kontinuierlich verschiedene Materialien auf ihr strukturelles und taktiles Potenzial. Der Prozess der Auswahl ist sehr überlegt.
Die weichen Formen, die ich aus Filz schaffe, drehen sich um den Prozess des Zuschneidens des Filzes von Hand in ein sehr organisiertes, leiterartiges Muster, das sich bei der Installation in ein organisiertes Chaos aufzulösen scheint. Die Formen sind nie vorgefertigt, sondern entstehen spontan bei der Installation, indem ich die enthaltene Sinnlichkeit des Materials zum Ausdruck kommen lasse.
Meine Arbeiten wirken der Vorstellung von der Dauerhaftigkeit eines Objekts oder einer Skulptur entgegen, da sie ungeplante Ausdrucksformen an einer Wand oder im Raum sind, die niemals exakt wiederholt werden können, sobald die Form entfernt wird.
Meine Collagen befriedigen mein Bedürfnis, das, was ich in 3-D geschaffen habe, in ein 2-D-Format umzuwandeln. Der Prozess der Schaffung einer 2D-Sprache um die Filzskulpturen herum ist ein fortlaufender Prozess. Ich verwende verschiedene Drucktechniken sowie Zeichnungen und andere Mischtechniken, um die Collagen zu erstellen.
Ich erforsche meine eigenen Inhalte und folge ihnen. So ist meine Arbeit zu einer Art sich selbst erhaltendem Organismus geworden, der sich ständig zwischen 3-D und 2-D hin und her bewegt.»
